All Hallow’s Read Swap: Follow-Up

All Hallow's Read

So, I’ve been hearing via Twitter and e-mail that the All Hallow’s Read swap participants are starting to receive their books, which is always my favourite part of projects like this. I thought it would be useful and fun to create a space where you can all share what you got (because let’s face it, we’re all nosy about bookish matters here), thank your sender, or link to a post on your blog about your All Hallow’s Read experience if you decide to write one.

My book arrived a few days ago – it’s The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafón, which I haven’t read before. Huge thanks to my mysterious sender! I don’t know if they wanted to stay anonymous or not: the book was sent through The Book Depository, and it’s come to my attention that people didn’t realise that packages sent through them wouldn’t include the name of the sender. So if you used them, your person might not know who to thank for their book; if you received an anonymous package through them, the sender might not realise it was anonymous. Please feel free to clear any of that up in the comments – and please tell me what you got, because I’m nosy and dying to know.

If you didn’t get a chance to join the All Hallow’s Read Swap, remember – it’s still not too late to share a spooky book this Halloween.

I loved participating! Still don't know who my giver was, but I can't wait to begin reading The Historian. :)

Christina, I spoke to yours and they're sending you a card, so you'll find out very soon! Enjoy The Historian :D

I loved The Shadow of the Wind, so I'm excited for you! I haven't received mine yet! I mailed mine yesterday. I hope she likes it!!! :)

Ohh, you haven't read Shadow of the Wind yet? I think you'll absolutely love it! I'm curious if you're reading it in Spanish or the Lucia Graves translation, though.

Heather: I hope you get yours soon, and I can't imagine your person not liking whatever you picked :D

Hannah: It's the English translation. I can understand written Spanish, but not well enough to capture all the nuances of a novel, I don't think. And the previous book of his I tried was in the Portuguese translation, which unfortunately I didn't think was great. Fingers crossed that this one clicks for me!

Thanks for replying to my comment in the first All Hallow's Eve post. I sent my book via FedEx, because the Mexican post service can be unreliable. Can't wait to get mine :)
Oh, I've heard great things about The Shadow of the Wind- I've been wanting to read it! Can't wait to hear what you thought of it!

It definitely sounds like I'll have to get to The Shadow of the Wind sooner rather than later. Mariana and Melissa, do come back once your books arrive! Can't wait to hear what you get :D

I missed this... :(

On another note, I wish Book Depository would get a gift option...

Jill: Hopefully she'll stop by again and tell us :D

Kelly: Aw, I'm so sorry! But there's always next year. And I know, right? I have no idea why they won't do that. Seems so simple.

I received my All Hallow's Read parcel this weekend and go Du Maurier's The Birds and Helen Dunmore's The Great Coat, both of which I am dying to read! I'm not sure who sent it to me but they also included lots of Halloween treats!

I just received my book today from Joanna. She sent me the lovely Vintage Classics edition The Collecter by John Fowles. It's been on my TBR list for a while so really excited to have my own copy.

I have a copy of The Shadow of the Wind, but haven't read it yet. I'm hoping to soon. I hope you enjoy it!

Ana, I sent you Shadow of the Wind. I hope you like it! It's one of my favorite Gothic-y reads. There should be one more little package coming your way, hopefully before Halloween. Sorry that I didn't get by to "reveal my identity" earlier. Happy Halloween!

Ana, I got Anno Dracula on Friday and started reading it this morning. It is something I don't think I would have come across but am enjoying it so thank you so much!

Ana @ things mean a lot said...

Mariana: yay! Such a good book. I hope you'll enjoy it!

Jen: Oh, thank you so, so much! I look forward to the extra little package :D Absolutely no reason to be sorry - I confess I was dying of curiosity, but that doesn't mean you HAD to tell me right away. The suspense kind of adds to the fun, after all :P A very Happy Halloween for you too!

Fence: yay! I know you like dark fantasy, so it looked like your sort of book. I hope you continue to enjoy it!

Mine came either Tuesday or Wednesday. Just in time for Halloween! It's a beautiful copy of The Small Hand by Susan Hill. I don't know who sent it, but thank you very much! I love it!

Hi Jen,
I sent you the copy of The Small Hand. It is one of my favourite haunting novels, so I hope you like it. It seemed to suit what you were looking for.
