Oh Dear
Don’t say a word, my friends. I think I’ve got no choice but do what C.B. James suggested: admit that I have a problem, stop worrying about it, and do my best to enjoy it. Also, might be a good idea to stay away from charity shops, used bookshops, and the library’s discard shelves for a while.
In other news, guess who got an internship at one of the coolest libraries around? (Elizabeth Gaskell was a member!) I’ll be working at this place twice a week for the rest of the term, on a project that has to do with Victorian biographies. This is a required part of my MA in Library and Information Management, but I didn’t dare hope for a placement that would fit my passions and interests as well as this. I’ll be starting next week – wish me luck!

Congratulations, that is really nice!
ReplyDeleteI see you're collecting books to take with you to your new working place? ;-)
Your internship sounds amazing! I bet you will enjoy it. :D
ReplyDeleteI have to resign myself to that same issue. I have an addiction, so I should probably just get over it and accept the fact that I cannot stop acquiring books. At least I'll be set for old age!
Leeswammes: lol. At this rate I'll soon be able to open a subscription library of my own in my flat :P
ReplyDeleteMeghan: That's a good way to think about it - we're planning for our retirement ;)
Hahahahaha, oh ANA. ♥
ReplyDeleteThat's so exciting, congratulations! See the universe was just holding out on you until it'd got you the best deal it could.
ReplyDeleteYou should open a library in the flat. It'd be way better than those people who open restaurants in their houses ;)
Renay and Jodie: In retrospect, my cries of NO PLACE IN THE UNIVERSE WILL EVER WANT ME do seem to have been premature ;)
ReplyDeleteEnvious of the VMC - have not seen that one!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE Jodie's idea of a pop up library :)
Congratulations and good luck!!! You will be fab! And I totally agree about embracing ones problems, at least when they involve books!
ReplyDeletecongratulations Ana!!! I hope you totally enjoy your time at the new library!
ReplyDeleteas for your addiction.. I wish i could read paperbacks! The print is just too small. But that is one great haul you made there. Good luck staying away from used books stores and thrift shops..if you find a way let me know!
I see Margaret Mahy! \o/
ReplyDeleteAnd congratulations! <3
Thanks for the link here. I'm glad to see you've embraced this little failing of yours, and have moved on with life. It's no big deal, really.
ReplyDeleteAnd the new job location looks wonderful. I checked out their site and can see why you're excited about it.
How is it I had this idea that you lived in Colorado?
a good haul of books-good luck on your internship
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, that looks like a fantastic place to be!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the internship!
ReplyDeleteI have the same problem but since I've learned to let go of books,I'm not so freaked out when I bring more and more into the house. I've found lots of joy in spreading the read ones around :-)
Congratulations and all good wishes.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely library. Such rich history. That is wonderful and I know you will enjoy your time there.
ReplyDeleteAs to the book addiction, yes, I think we all have it - some more than others. I'm one of the totally addicted and drowning in books types. LOL
I have that exact same edition of Hurston's stories and am currently reading it, one story a day. :D
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the internship!
Congratulations Ana! This is really wonderful! Hope you enjoy your internship at the library! The library looks really cool from the picture!
ReplyDeleteIs that the pile of your newly acquired books sitting on the top of your 'TBR' list? :) Hope you enjoy reading them :)
Woo hooo on the internship. How exciting.
ReplyDeleteWhat exciting news on the internship! Congrats!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your internship!
ReplyDeleteI'm so envious of your internship. I'd love to get a chance to work at a library. Also, your new acquisitions look quite formidable. I'm looking forward to your thoughts on The Mill of the Floss and The Age of Innocence. :)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on a great placement! I'm so happy for you that your work will complement your interests like that! As for the book pile, since we're not allowed to say a word, I will simply indicate LOLOL
ReplyDeleteSorry, but I laughed out loud when I saw your post title and photo pop up there together on the screen! :D Ooooh, and I have those bottom two here that I'm hoping to read for the one-a-week thingie )that I'm already far behind on :P )...don't they both look great, though in very different ways?
ReplyDeleteYou already know how happy I am for you about the internship, but I wanted to remind you of something, my dear--they are every bit as lucky to have *you* as you are to be there!
Congratulations and good luck!
ReplyDeleteI think book addiction is something we all try to cope with...hahaha!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the placement...you will be fabulous!
Congratulation on the internship! It sounds so perfect for you, well done!
ReplyDeletealso, that's A LOT of new books...:P

ReplyDeleteCongratulations! That internship sounds fantastic, and I hope it's fun! Nice new books...wish I had an Oxfam near me. :p
ReplyDeleteNothing wrong with admitting you have a problem. :) What a cool internship! I am so jealous.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your internship. England does have its good points. The bad points being access to cheap books.Tee hee. I have The Bronte Myth one too. I love seeing all your new purchases.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the internship, Ana! What a wonderful opportunity!
ReplyDeleteThere are worse problems to have than adding more books to your TBR pile--so they tell me. LOL I hope you enjoy your new books. Think of them as a reward for your new position!
Yay for the internship! And yay for the books! :-D
ReplyDeleteOh, but you got such wonderful books :-)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the library internship -- it sounds absolutely wonderful!
Good for you! Congratulations. What a wonderful opportunity. If I am this excited for you, I can only imagine how you must feel. :)
ReplyDeleteYour post title and then the picture made me laugh out loud!! It's alright - the problem is healthy. :) And congrats on the internship! That's awesome!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your beautiful book pile and fantastic-sounding internship!! So excited for you.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on a internship - especially since you're excited about it. That's pretty rare, indeed!
ReplyDeleteFor some reason I've wanted to read Daphne but remember nothing about it. At all. Enjoy!
How coolio! SO. JEALOUS. Sounds like this term is going to be great!
ReplyDeleteOh, how wonderful. good luck!! And I know how you feel about used books...I need to stay away from the library sales myself. haha
ReplyDelete-Lauren
It isn't a problem as long as you have a bookshelf big enough to fit them all on ;)
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the internship!
Hahaha! I may or may not have a book acquisition post set to go up next Sunday full of books that I probably should not have a acquired, so this post made me smile!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your internship! I hope it proves the most enjoyable sort of work, and good luck, of course. =)
Congratulations on your internship!
ReplyDeleteOoh! Congratulations on the internship ;)
ReplyDeleteAnd thats a very lovely horde of books...enjoy!
Wonderful haul, Nymeth! I so enjoy vicariously acquiring books through posts like these.
ReplyDeleteAnd congrats on your internship! It sounds positively heavenly.
Oh wow, congratulations!
ReplyDeleteOn the other topic, as long as you enjoy the books or at least most of them, then it's good.
Congratulations! What wonderful news. You have found a fantastic new home away from home.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't say you have a problem, it's really a healthy, enjoyable obsession! lol I, for one, love that stack of books in your picture, simply yummy.
Congratulations on the internship and I'm glad you decided to join in one the TBR Dare. I signed up for January but am going to continue through February!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your internship! It seems like you find the most interesting jobs around! ;-)
ReplyDeleteI have Ghostopolis and some Hurston in my tbr pile. I'm so jealous that you got your hands on Staal. (I'm being cheap right now so I haven't bought it yet.) Happy reading and have a great week.
Oh wow, congratulations on your internship! what a beautiful place to go to work to. You'll have to keep us posted on what you do for your internship. And, love the big pile of books there :)
ReplyDeleteAna, I know just what you mean about having a problem with books. I just can't stop adding to my collection, and it's gotten so out of hand that others are noticing! I am just going to do what you suggest and admit it, and start enjoying again. There is really no use in trying to fight it. I am so glad to hear that you got your dream job as well, and hope that you do smashingly well at it, though I know you will!
ReplyDeleteI hope you enjoy Reading Women. I did, for the most part. And also, I'm envious. I even set foot in a bookstore this weekend and DIDN'T PURCHASE A BOOK. *sigh* TBR Dare, I hate you.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, Ana! I'm so happy for you! :)
ReplyDeleteOoh! Ooh! I see THE MAGICIANS AND MRS QUENT! ZOMG! <3 <3 <3
ReplyDeleteAlso, congrats on the internship! It sounds perfect for you.
I think your pile looks lovely!! Enjoy!!
ReplyDeleteIs it bad that I laughed my ass off as soon as I opened this post? :p HOORAY FOR THE WILD THINGS!!!! Oh I loved that book so much.
ReplyDeleteAnd ANA!!!! Your internship!!!! Congrats :D :D I'm so freaking happy for you. God, that's so perfect for you. Awwww..*hugs*
How exciting! Good luck!!!
ReplyDeleteI still haven't organized my shelves from when I moved over a year ago, so I feel too guilty buying stacks of books like this anymore. Maybe when I'm more organized as I do miss sneaking in a giant stack to the house. ;)
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the internship!! You'll have to be sure and let us know of any neat things you discover or encounter!
Not saying a word about the errr...... never mind. Congratulations on the internship :)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the internship! That is awesome!
ReplyDeleteOh dear indeed. Love the pile. And congratulations!!! Good luck

ReplyDeleteEnjoy your internship! I bet it's amazing.
Congrats on your new internship! It sounds like the perfect placement for you.
ReplyDeleteEmbrace your addiction! And congratulations on getting an internship that you are perfectly suited for!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your internship -- it sounds wonderful! And take solace that you are not alone with your book "problem." Yup. Enjoy it :o)
ReplyDeleteCongrats, Ana, that's fantastic! :)
ReplyDeleteAnd your book pile is droolworthy ;)
Ana, I hope you will be able to share your internship experience with us. How exciting!
ReplyDeleteI know how dangerous it is to frequent places that offer used books -- it's one reason why my TBR pile is so huge!
What a lovely stack of books to dive into! And congrats on the job!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your excuse to acquire more books. Sorry, Internship! ;P Looks like an awesome place!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! It's difficult to find a job/placement in your exact field of interest but sometimes the stars align and we get exactly what we're looking for.
ReplyDeleteI officially envy you. You torture me with my resolve of not buying books. Arrghhh...
ReplyDeleteHello! I've been following your blog for quite some time now. I find your write-ups on books deeply insightful and wonderful to read. Needless to say a lot of books have been added to my wishlist. :)
ReplyDeleteThe internship sounds awesome, congratulations and i wish you all the best! n_n
Good luck!! So excited for you Ana! And great stack, btw. I found an exact same copy of Mill on the Floss awhile back. Happy reading The Wild Things! xx
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, everyone! I'm sorry I got hugely behind on replying to comments yet again :\ But you know I heart you all. The first week at the library went well - there was a lot of dust and a lot of climbing impossibly high ladders to get books involved, but also awesome Victorianness and even a free slice of cheesecake :P
ReplyDeleteI won't say a word, although I've spied a couple of titles on my wishlist:) And congratulations on your internship!
