Will Grayson, Will Grayson by John Green and David Levithan

Will Grayson, Will Grayson by John Green and David Levithan

I bet you were wondering why I hadn't read John Green and David Levithan's Will Grayson, Will Grayson (one of my most anticipated releases of 2010), Internet. Well, the answer is that I actually did read it right after it came out (or as soon as The Book Depository got it to me - there might have been a few days of agonising wait involved, where all my friends went on about how good it was and I checked the mailbox in frustration each day). But I was fortunate enough to co-review with Renay at subverting the text, and the fact that we're both a little bit fond of using lots and lots of words made getting this post written a time-consuming process. (Also, it's possible that I'm as slow at updating Google Docs as I am at e-mail. But let's not get into that.)

But it was so worth it! Renay is crazy smart and hilarious and awesome times a thousand, so if you're not reading her blog yet, you really should be. About the book, the short of it is that I liked it (we both did), though not quite as much as John Green's solo books or Levithan's books with Rachel Cohn. I won't spoil the long of it, in which we try to move beyond our likes and dislikes and discuss what the book is doing - to read it, just follow the link at the beginning of the post.

  1. I'm hopping over there to read your review. Luckily a very kind blogger is sending me a copy of WGWG so I don't have to wait forever for a library copy!

  2. Glad to know that you liked 'Will Grayson, Will Grayson', Ana. I have heard of David Levithan but have not heard of John Green. This looks like an interesting effort - two authors collaborating on a complex work. I am looking forward to reading your conversation with Renay at her blog soon.

  3. My son Marc read it and really seemed to enjoy it. The ending was what made him upset!

  4. Gavin: Aw. I love book bloggers <3.

Vishy: I need to introduce you to John Green! He's one of my absolute favourite authors. His books are so smart and funny and emotionally resonance. If you ever get a chance to pick up Looking for Alaska, do!

Staci: Yeah, I'm with your son. The ending was just too rushed.

  6. Loved y'all's review over there! I had wondered if that was only half of it and if i would find another half over here! :D I do understand your disappointment with that one section. I hadn't thought about it that way, but I definitely see where you're coming from. Maybe that's one of the reasons I like Crossed Wires so much. It's not an internet connection, but still long distance and real.
