A Persephone Under my Tree

Okay, so I might have gone a little overboard with bookish Secret Santa swaps this year. In addition to hosting the Book Bloggers Holiday Swap, I joined Book Psmith’s Persephone Secret Santa and LibraryThing’s very awesome SantaThing. The Persephone gift was the first to arrive, and if the other two are even half as awesome, this will be a very happy holiday season indeed.
My Santa was the lovely Danielle at Leaning Towards the Sun, and while I haven’t opened my gift yet—I decided to be good and actually wait for Christmas this year—I can tell by the bookmark that it’s Alas, Poor Lady by Rachel Ferguson, quite simply the Persephone I’d been coveting the most.
Thank you so much, Danielle! And thank you also to Book Psmith for organizing everything. And an additional thank you to Claire and Verity for introducing me to Persephone earlier this year. I will be on my way to work when this post goes up, but I can’t wait to get home and see which Persephones everyone else got.

Exciting! I loved that one. And thanks for mentioning me - I hope we will have another Persephone reading week soon.
ReplyDeletei was wondering why everyone was getting persephones! how the heck did i miss that?! attention fail if i ever saw one.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful gift! Your Secret Santa made an excellent choice. Alas, Poor Lady has been on my wishlist for a while. I can't wait to read your review.
ReplyDeleteMy Persephone secret Santa was so generous! Don't they come prettily wrapped and I used my ribbon and tissue paper to rewrap gifts for other swaps so environmentally helpful as well. Such a cute tree by the way!
ReplyDeleteI guess I don't blame you...it would be heartbreaking to touch that beautiful wrapping job. Congrats to you, and by the way, I don't think there is any such thing as overdoing swap activity!
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful that you ended up with the one you've been wanting most! :D
ReplyDeleteAnd Ana, like I said on Twitter yesterday, I have a feeling that one of these days soon, Santa Mailman is going to be delivering you one enormous pile of packages...ooooh, how fun is that going to be! :D
Hey that's nice to know u will wait till Christmas to open the wrapping :) I never have such patience :)
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to hear your thoughts on the book - such a great choice by Danielle!
ReplyDeleteIt has been ridiculously exciting reading everyone's posts today - Verity is right, we need another Persephone Reading Week soon! We are having cakes at the shop to celebrate the last one in a few weeks so perhaps we can arrange something then.
I didn't know Library Thing had a Secret Santa swap. How very cool. Maybe I'll participate next year (I think I'm too late, now)
ReplyDeleteI like your tree! And that pink wrapping paper.
ReplyDeleteA Persephone under your tree. I am so jealous! Enjoy your presents. Your tree looks lovely.
ReplyDeleteI didn't even know about the persephone swap. One of these days I need to read a Persephone book.
ReplyDeleteYou are a stronger woman than I! Once I had a moment to myself, I made short work of opening my package...but you knew that already:) Have fun opening all your gifts on Christmas and happy reading! Can't wait to see what you think of Alas.
ReplyDeleteI cannot believe you have the willpower to wait! Good for you! I can remember waiting only once in my life to open an early present! Just too much temptation!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you like the selection, it has been lots of fun. It looks like it will be a wonderful book, do let us know how you like it. And p.s. I can't believe you had the willpower to wait! The pink wrapping is calling my name way across the sea :)
ReplyDeleteThat's so wonderful, you got the Persephone you wanted the most! I know you loved The Brontes Went to Woolworths so am really looking forward to your thoughts on this. :)
ReplyDeleteI really need to read a Persephone book soon! Geez, Ana, first you get me started on graphic novels in general and now onto a publisher in specific!
ReplyDeleteThanks all! I'll be sure to let you know what I think of the book - I have a feeling the verdict will be VERY positive. It's too bad some of you missed the chance to join this Secret Santa, but if we ask nicely, Book Psmith will host it again next year, yes? :P
ReplyDeleteAlso, I normally can't wait until Christmas to open by gifts either...not sure what got into me this year :P
I can't wait for the next Persephone Week!
I wish I had done the Persephone Gift Swap! I love Secret Santa Gift exchanges. It's fun to buy gifts for others and great to receive them too. And you cannot go wrong with a Persephone! Enjoy your gifts!
ReplyDeleteThe more I hear about Persephone, the more I want to browse through their catalogue! The books look and sound lovely.
ReplyDeleteI commend you on your ability to not open it! Mine would have been opened in two seconds flat ;p
ReplyDeleteYou have more willpower than I do! I'd have that thing ripped open so fast.
ReplyDeleteThose books are gorgeous!! Enjoy opening it up!!
ReplyDeletevery nice! and what a cute tree :)

Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteThere is no such thing as overboard when it comes to gifts. Just the best! I feel like an excited little kid today with my new Laski, my first Persephone. Enjoy that coveted read and happy holidays!
ReplyDeleteYou are so disciplined to not want to rip off the wrapping immediately and to wait for Christmas. I don't think I could do the same!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful gift! I haven't read a Persephone book before so I'll have to check them out! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful package! I agree with Kathy - you have a lot of willpower :)
ReplyDeleteI love that you received the very one you wanted, right under your sweet little tree!
ReplyDeleteYou haven't opened it?!? What will power!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun swap, huh? I can't believe you haven't opened it- I tore into mine immediately!
ReplyDeletePretty Christmas tree! I want to post a picture of mine, too.
ReplyDeleteI certainly wouldn't be able to wait for Christmas before opening my gifts...
I nearly joined everyone I came across but stopped at two. After seeing all these Persephone gifts though, I wish I'd at least signed up for this one too. I can't wait to find out what you got!
ReplyDeleteI don't believe that one can go too overboard in gift giving, especially when that giving involves books!
ReplyDeleteLove your cute Christmas tree.
You have great self control Nymeth. That is some pretty packaging, hope you enjoy the book.
ReplyDeleteVery cool gift! I have to say that I would have had that thing ripped right open as soon as I got it, so I think your willpower is great! I hope you get some other wonderful things from your other swaps as well!
