Read-a-thon Mini-Challenge: Hour 2
Hello, Read-a-thon participants! It's time for the second Mini-Challenge. What I propose is that you take a break from your book and spend at least 10 minutes reading a webcomic. You can take this chance to catch up with an old favourite, discover new webcomics, or explore this storytelling medium for the first time.
Then write a short post about which webcomic you've read and what you thought of it, and come back here to let me know you've done it and leave me a link to your post. Dewey will draw a name among the participants and the winner will get 1 Bookmooch point (if you're not on Bookmooch, it will go to a charity of your choice) and a comic or graphic novel up to $15 on Amazon.
This Mini-Challenge will be open for the next 2 hours: Until 12pm GMT-8.
Unsure of which webcomic to read? Here are a few suggestions:

(The art in the banner, in case anyone's wondering, is from No Rest of the Wicked, Questionable Content, Goblins and Penny Arcade)

Unsure of which webcomic to read? Here are a few suggestions:

- No Rest for the Wicked: Probably my favourite webcomic. Gorgeous art and fairy tales!
- Questionable Content: Set in a world similar to ours except that they have cute walking, talking, thinking computers. Lots of references to music, humour and very likeable and unique characters.
- Penny Arcade: Geeky humour to the max, especially, but not only, videogame related.
- Unshelved: Dewey recommended this one. It's set in a library! The protagonist is a deliciously sarcastic comic book and fantasy loving YA librarian. What's there not to love?
- Unshelved Bookclub: Basically mini book reviews in webcomic format. Here are a few: Coraline, The Colour of Magic, Ender's Game, Little Brother, Jpod, Mouse Guard, A Wizard of Earthsea.
- Goblins: A humorous fantasy setting, a good story, and interesting characters.
- Nice Hair: Ever wondered what would happen if Neil Gaiman, Tim Burton and Robert Smith were to share a house? Now you can find out!

I keep getting a "not found" message for the unshelved bookclub, but I see in Becky's post that she read that, so I don't know what's going wrong when I click.
ReplyDeleteHere's my post
ReplyDeleteI'd never even heard of web comics before this, so it was very interesting. I read Questionable Content, which I thought was very funny. And then I lost track of time. I've been reading for 25 minutes!
ReplyDeleteThanks for a fun challenge!
Dewey: I hope you find some new webcomics you like :) And thanks for letting me know about the error! Eek, there was a problem with the link. I thought I'd checked them all more than once. Anyway, fixed now.
ReplyDeleteThanks for participating, everyone! I'm glad you're all enjoying the mini-challenge :)
This was fun. I had never read a web comic before. Here is the link to my post:

I was very hesitant, but this was a fun challenge. I'm hoping someone will make a "read talk on LibraryThing for 10 minutes" challenge so I can catch up on that. I blogged about my experience in my hour 2 wrap up post.
ReplyDeleteAwesome challenge. I used it to try out Penny Arcade, although my favorite web comic is xkcd.
ReplyDeleteMy post
I had fun at Animal Crackers and Dilbert. Here's my post. Thanks for this one, Nymeth!
ReplyDeleteI actually read some webcomics on a normal basis. Here's my post!

Thanks for the interesting challenge!
ReplyDeleteLink!
I used to read webcomics all the time. I see you read some that I used to follow religiously. I should get back into them. Have you ever read Dominic Deegan? That was my favourite forever but then the story got a bit weird. I love the cat, though. (I am not in the 24-hour-read-a-thon. Just offering my thoughts)
ReplyDeleteI read No Rest for the Wicked: it's great! I'll be posting my summary in the next hour: is that ok? Dewey said it's open until hour 4.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for participating, everyone.
ReplyDeleteKailana, I haven't read Domic Deegan, no. I have to check it out. I used to read webcomics a lot more regularly too, but I've lost touch with all except 3 or 4. I need to catch up!
Eva, I think it's fine, yes. Posting here saying you've done it got entered in the draw. I'm glad you enjoyed No Rest for the Wicked!
