Read-a-thon: The Aftermath

Well, it's over. Did it go by fast or what? I can't thank Dewey and the co-organizers enough. I had a great time. Like last time, what struck me the most was the amazing sense of community. It's so much fun to be involved in an event that has participants from all over the world celebrating their love of books in such an awesome way. Last time I was only an observer, this time I was a bit more involved...hopefully in the Fall I will finally get to be a reader!

I'll now do the Cheerleader-relevant bits of the post-event survey:

1. Which hour was most daunting for you?
I got 7 hours of sleep and I wasn't around for the whole of the remaining time because there were things I had to do... so none, really. I really admire those of you who stayed up for the whole or most of the 24 hours!

3. Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next year?
It was pretty much perfect the way it was! There's just something that crossed my mind: maybe it would help if the cheerleaders had shifts, to make sure that the whole 24hours were covered by at least one of us? I'm saying this because there was a reader (I can't remember who) who said that at one time all the cheerleaders seemed to have simultaneously gone "off duty". But anyway, things were extremely well organized, and I think most of the time was covered. Darcie did an amazing job!

4. What do you think worked really well in this year’s Read-a-thon?
The mini-challenges were great, and having a reader's feed was really helpful.

9. If you were a Cheerleader, do you have any advice for next year’s Cheerleaders?
This is mostly a note to myself: I should have been more organized in my blog hopping. I should have decided if I was going to use the feed or simply go through the list of readers and stuck to one option. In the forth or fifth hour I ended up making myself feel pretty swamped, because I simply lost track of who I'd visited and who I hadn't. I think I visited everyone at least once, but I fear that I might have neglected some readers, for which I apologize!

10. How likely are you to participate in the Read-a-thon again? What role would you be likely to take next time?
I loved being a cheerleader, but I really hope I get to participate as a reader next time!

Well, off to take a shower, spend some time with the cats and dogs, and do linguistics exercises.

You were all amazing. Rest well!

  1. Nymeth, thanks for your continued support. It helped, you know!

  2. Thanks for being such a great cheerleader! I was really reluctant to do this read-a-thon because I didn't know how reading for so long would be and then taking the time away from reading to blog. But like you, I LOVED the community aspect and don't think this would have been the same without everyone's continual support. So, thanks again.

  3. It went by super-fast! And you were a great cheerleader. :D

I totally agree w/ the cheerleading in shifts. I really tried to visit everyone every couple of hours, but I finally had to take a break to save my sanity!

  4. Thank you all - I'm glad to know that my cheerleading helped :) You were all great!

  5. I had a lot of fun cheerleading. :)

  6. Thanks for all your work! I really had fun. :)

  7. I hope everyone had a great time reading and cheerleading! :)

  8. I hope you get to read in the next round!

  9. Yeah...I liked Cheerleading too. I just wish I had more time to spend blog-hopping. Oh well...maybe next time!

  10. I forgot to watch and/or cheer! Not until this morning, when it was all over. So I'm sorry to everyone! I meant to keep tabs and see how it was going, since I decided not to participate this year. I hope to, though. Well done, Nymeth! Glad you had fun, too! :-)

  11. Thanks for your help...I felt refreshed when one of your comments would pop up on my blog. You were quite conscientious in your cheerleading. Well done!

  12. You win a gold star for cheerleading, Nymeth. Thank you.

  13. I second Andi there...definitely gold stars for you! Your kind words always gave me a lift, and I know Annie appreciated them as well! Thanks Nymeth!

  14. Maree, so did I :)

Lizzie, you're welcome! It was tons of fun.

Melody, everyone seems to have had an excellent time. I just love the Read-a-thon!

    3m, hopefully I will!

Stephanie, I do hope you manage to have more time for the next Read-a-thon, but you were great in this one regardless!

Susan, there's always the next one in October :)

Bybee, Andi and Debi, I'm really glad to know I was helpful :)

  15. I voted for your enthusiasm! You did terrific and it was fun to follow you around. I had the very same thoughts abt cheering. It was fun and now I want to be a reader, too.

  16. I'm highly likely to participate in the next one, which would be my first. I hope the timing works out for me. It seems like such a fun idea and I was disappointed to have to miss out this past weekend.

Thank you so much for taking the time to comment - interaction is one of my favourite things about blogging and a huge part of what keeps me going.
